Here is a special blanket for a special baby that is impressive, yet practical. The Filigree Lace-edged Baby Blanket combines a pleasingly reversible Filigree lace stitch around the edges with a cushiony garter stitch center for cuddly warmth. This predominantly solid-fabric blanket is great for those who want a bit of impressive lace, yet are concerned about holes in which baby could get their fingers caught.
Start with just a bit of lacy pattern knitted circularly to dress up the outer edges of this utilitarian beauty. Then the center is knitted back and forth in garter stitch on the diagonal, forming a square to fill in the center while attaching itself to the edging at the same time. No seams to sew!
Finished size approximately 34" square. To make, you will need 1000 yards sport weight yarn. 5¼ stitches/inch over lace stitch pattern, size US 6 / 4 mm needles suggested. Shown in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport, color Layette. Written and charted stitch instructions are included in the pattern.
