Knit your own Circle of Friendship Socks using these clearly-written instructions by knitwear designer Jackie E-S of HeartStrings FiberArts.
Traveling stitch cables define inter-connected circles, and remind us of the friendships that abound through our knitting. Pattern includes stitch variations for yarn in either variegated or solid colors.
Instructions are given for making the twisted stitch traveling cables either with or without a cable needle. The method without a cable needle can be applied to making any cables in general without a cable needle!
Adult medium. 300 yards fingering weight, 8 stitches/inch, size US 1 / 2.5 mm needles suggested. Charted instructions.
The socks shown above were made with Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock yarn in color Socknitters Rainbow. This should give you a good idea of how the stitch pattern will show up in a variegated yarn. You may also select a solid color yarn which further emphasizes the bold relief of the stitch pattern for an even more classic look (see Additional Images).
Tip: Although the pattern is sized for adult medium in fingering weight yarn at 8 stitches per inch over stockinette, I've successfully made these in DK weight at 6½ stitches per inch and a size larger needle for hefty large-sized men's socks, too!
