Nomad Camel Yarn is produced from two-humped Bactrian camels and is handspun by the nomads from the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, either on a spinning wheel or a drop spindle.
A portion of the proceeds from each sale of Nomad camel yarn is returned to the tribe to help the herder women form co-operatives through which their skill, talent and unique handspun yarns can grow and flourish. The skein label is signed personally by the member of the tribe that spun the yarn. Being handspun and produced directly from the camels that they herd, skeins will vary slightly in length, texture and color. This variance will produce garments that have a unique look and feel, making them truly one-of-a-kind treasures.
