Knit your own Crest of the Wave Lace Scarf using these clearly-written instructions by knitwear designer Jackie E-S of HeartStrings FiberArts.

This lovely lace scarf is named after its main pattern stitch "Crest of the Wave", a derivative of the popular Shetland lace stitch Feather and Fan or Old Shale. The main stitch area of graceful lacy waves is surrounded by a knit-as-you-go elegant ribbed openwork border.

Allow 500 yards of lace or fingering weight yarn for 14" x 68" scarf, or desired length with yardage adjustment. 4½ stitches/inch, size US 6 / 4.0 mm needles suggested. Shown above in 2-ply handspun silk yarn. Written stitch instructions.

Because of the wavy structure of the stitch pattern, the Crest of the Waves Scarf pattern is lovely worked in variegated yarns, too. The picture shown in the Additional Images was knitted in hand-painted silk/rayon from Heritage Yarns.
